Be brilliant, play cunning, and become versed in craps the proper way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s horsemen wagered on Hazard through a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the castle’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when banished by the British, the French relocated south and located refuge in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which was gotten from the term for the losing toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and all over the country. A great many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn created the current craps setup. He appended the Don’t Pass line so players could bet on the dice to not win. At another time, he developed the boxes for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
