Be smart, play clever, and master craps the ideal way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps evolved from the old English game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, although Hazard is said to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s soldiers played Hazard amid a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when exiled by the British, the French relocated down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was acquired from the term for the losing throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and across the nation. A great many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn built the modern craps setup. He added the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he invented the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
