Be clever, play cunning, and discover how to play craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is only about 100 years old. Modern craps come about from the 12th Century English game called Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the birth of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s horsemen bet on Hazard through a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortification’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when expelled by the British, the French headed down south and located safety in southern Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was gotten from the name of the bad luck throw of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi riverboats and all over the country. Most consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the current craps setup. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so players can bet on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he invented the spots for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
