Be brilliant, play clever, and master craps the ideal way!
Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps developed from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s soldiers gambled on Hazard through a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortification’s name.
Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French moved south and located sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which is derived from the term for the losing toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and all over the nation. A good many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the modern craps layout. He created the Do not Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to lose. Later, he established the spots for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
