Be brilliant, play smart, and become versed in craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games date back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps evolved from the old English game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the birth of the game, although Hazard is said to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s soldiers bet on Hazard during a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when exiled by the English, the French relocated down south and located sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s believed that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which was derived from the term for the losing toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi barges and all over the nation. A great many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn built the modern craps layout. He added the Do not Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. At another time, he designed the spots for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
